Our classroom is set up in a way to inspire child-led exploration and play, and our educators are thoughtful and intentional in setting up inviting play-based learning experiences. All our experiences and activities reflect the children’s interests, abilities, and curiosities.
Our indoor area has a mat area for large block construction, floor puzzles, group games, mat time learning and group activities, as well as many areas for solo and collaborative learning and play. There is a home corner and cubby space for quiet time and relaxation, and a dedicated area for creative expression and an area with a couch for books and stories. We have plentiful resources that are inviting for play and many provocations for learning, such as repurposed and recycled items, loose parts, posters, images, props, and books.
We have a beautiful outdoor area that has many natural spaces and includes swings, a large sandpit, and a cubby. In our yard, there are big old deciduous trees that change colour in Autumn and lose their leaves in winter, making for wonderful nature learning environments for children. We have a permanent stage area under one of the trees, which the children use for a variety of activities. There is a sound shelter, which is used for rest and relaxation, as well as quiet activities. There are many garden beds in which we grow native plants, succulents, and fruit and veggies such as strawberries, herb bushes and two plum trees.
